Seals, Seals, and more Seals
I received a very interesting email a few days ago. It was from a PR firm inviting me to a Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) event simply named, "Chefs for Seals." This title alone was enough to interest me.Chefs for Seals is a non-profit organization dedicated to putting an end to commercial seal hunting. You can see why the HSUS is involved. Apparently, Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans has been selling commercial seal hunting licenses. This is just wrong.Celebrity Photographer Nigel Barker has fought seal hunting in the U.K. and has volunteered his time and talent to help stop the hunting in Canada. As a result, his photos and documentary has been the tip of the spear of this responsible movement. Chefs for Seals is a city-centered cause that receives support from local chefs. This year alone, Chefs for Seals events have manifested in Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington D.C.; New York City is just inevitable. The NYC event billed talented and influential chefs like, Terrance Brennan, Gabrielle Hamilton, Michelle Mazza, Aaron Sanchez, Sam Talbot, Patricia Yeo, Ben Towill, and Phil Winser. It also featured local celebrities including, Blythe Danner, Emily Deschanel, Moby, Chris Noth, Beth Ostrosky Stern, and Michael Vartan.I was not able to get many pictures due to my hit-or-miss smartphone camera; but please click through the above gallery to see some select moments from the event.
